The Pine Grove Theatre, also known as the Hippodrome Theater, was built in 1910, by Gregory Achenbach. Live performances and Vaudeville were held here on the stage in addition to movies being shown.
The name of the theater was shortened to the Hipp in 1935, after a refurbishing took place. It's possible that sound was added to the theater at that time. After being closed in the mid 50's, the theater was reopened after a complete reconstruction was done in late 1962. It was known as the Pine Theater.
The theater operated, for awhile, seven days a week until being open only on the weekends. In 1999, the theater closed it's doors.
The current owners bought the theater not long after, and did a complete overhaul on the old theater. Even making it handicapped accessible by removing some of the seats. It opened in April 2001 as The Pine Grove Theatre running feature films seven days a week. It's also host to many Historical Society programs, plays, concerts, and other live performances.
Did you know that the Newmanstown Theater is another great story.
Please, we invite you to come and watch a movie here.
